SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVIN’ IS EASY IN HILLCREST
School’s out and it is time to relax in Hillcrest. If you are an outdoors lover, there are streets and trails for biking, paths for hiking and sidewalks for walking at your chosen speed. If it’s the cool of the indoors that you seek in summer, then the merchants of Hillcrest have a variety of havens for escape from the sun.
You will never run out of discoveries at our neighborhood shops. Whether it is a birthday, a wedding or a baby gift or something to treat yourself, we have something to delight all tastes. Furniture, clothing, gourmet delicacies, jewelry or little somethings that make you smile, you’ll find it here.
With shopping out of the way, relax at one of the many restaurants. Start your day at one of the coffee houses, lunch with friends under the soft breeze of a fan or spend a special evening with someone you love dining in some of the finest restaurants in Arkansas.
Summer is also the time to lighten your look and be healthy. Our salons, spas and health providers are ready to give you the look and feel of the vitality of Hillcrest. We welcome travelers and visitors.
If you want to experience the true flavor of Hillcrest, then come out on a First Thursday evening. Shops and restaurants are open and music spills out onto the sidewalks.
July 6 will be the annual Ice Cream (and more) Social at The Crest Park in the 2800 block of Kavanaugh (in front of Kroger). Ice cream, popcorn, cookies, lemonade and other summer treats are all free. Students from the Montessori Childrens House will sing. Rousing brass band music by the Quapaw Brass Quintet will stir your patriotic spirit. The fun begins at 6 pm and ends when the ice cream melts, so come early then stroll the shops or chase your dessert with a late supper. Contact Dr Karen Konarski-Hart at 258-7757 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
And if your soul needs a lift, please come to one of the many churches of Hillcrest. They are all open and welcoming with many worship styles and activities throughout the week.
If you come to love Hillcrest as we do and don’t want to leave, then a local realtor or bank can make that dream a reality. But whether you come for a day or come to stay, you’ll always be welcome. Please check the individual websites of the Hillcrest Merchants listed on this site for more information on your special interests.
WHAT ARE THOSE STORM DRAIN ARTISTS DOING?
Did you know that anything washed down the storm drains in Hillcrest goes DIRECTLY into Fourche Creek? That’s correct. Those leaves blown from your yard, that soda bottle floating down the gutter, that motor oil you washed down your driveway, is jettisoned into our own green space. Nothing that enters those drains is processed in any way. It piles up on the creek banks and poisons the water and vegetation. Even grass clippings carry the chemicals used in our landscaping and are ingested by fish, birds and other wildlife that inhabit the waterway. Fishing, canoeing and hiking are hampered by smelly and sometimes dangerous piles of refuse that collect on the shore. Go to www.drain-smart.org for more information.
