HILLCREST, WHEN AUTUMN LEAVES START TO FALL…
Fall is upon us and as Hillcrest slips into a cape of rust and gold, activities move into high gear. There are football games at War Memorial Stadium that flood the neighborhood with high school and college tailgaters. Cooler days and pleasant evenings bring out the walkers, bikers and joggers to take advantage of the parks and tree lined streets.
Residents and visitors know how to spark their personal look with a stop at one of the salons or shops throughout the neighborhood. Houses become homier with new decorator items to add a cozy feel for fall. A bottle of wine, some cheese, fresh bread from a shop or restaurant are the beginnings of a romantic picnic in one of the parks. Make your appointments now at one of our local healthcare clinics to beat the end of year rush and to ensure that you are feeling your best heading into the holiday season. Are you downsizing or upgrading? The Hillcrest banks and realtors can make your dreams a reality. Go to the individual merchants listings on this site to find out more information or to link to their websites.
First Thursdays in Fall bring everyone out. Bands, street vendors, shop sales and restaurant specials are available throughout the business district. Meet your neighbors or make new friends. It’s a great way to start the month.
The BIG event in Hillcrest is always HARVESTFEST. It was voted the BEST NEIGHBORHOOD FESTIVAL in Arkansas. Sponsored by the Hillcrest Merchants Association, this year it will be celebrated on Saturday October 4 beginning with a bird identification walk through Allsopp Park, a Farmers Market, the Hillcrest Residents Association Pancake Breakfast, then on to the kids’ fun with pumpkin decorating and other action at the east end of Kavanaugh. Over 100 vendors will line the streets with a Cheese Dip and Corvette show in the middle. As the evening comes on, the bands will hit the 2 stages, breaking only for the 2014 Fall Fashion Show. Nighttime proceeds go toward our local charities, Centers for Youth and Families and the Francis Allen School. Check Harvestfest.us for details or click the big orange button below!
The schools and churches of Hillcrest are bustling with their own autumn activities. Of special note is the annual Hillcrest Community Thanksgiving Service during Thanksgiving week. This event is open to all and features all of the denominations in the neighborhood. Check the HMA calendar page for time and place in 2014.
So come to Hillcrest this autumn. We’d love to have you for the day or to stay!
